📘 PHOTOSYNTHESIS

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants, algae, and some bacteria manufacture their own food (glucose) using sunlight, carbon dioxide, water, and chlorophyll.

It is the foundation of life on Earth because it produces oxygen and is the main source of energy for almost all organisms.

Plants must have:

1. Sunlight

Provides the energy needed for the reaction.

3. Carbon Dioxide (CO₂)

Taken in through the stomata.

4. Water (H₂O)

Absorbed from the soil by roots.

5. Suitable Temperature

Enzymes work best between 25°C–35°C.

5. Chlorophyll Supply

Yellow leaves = low photosynthetic activity.

  1. Boil leaf in water (kills cells).

  2. Boil in alcohol (removes chlorophyll).

  3. Rinse in warm water (softens leaf).

  4. Add iodine solution.

Positive test:
