JAMB 2027 registration is coming.
And every year — without fail — thousands of candidates make avoidable mistakes during registration that either delay their application, disqualify them, or cause problems that follow them all the way to admission.
This guide covers everything you need to know before you register — the requirements, the steps, the deadlines, and the mistakes to avoid from the very beginning.
What Is JAMB Registration?
JAMB registration is the process through which candidates officially apply to sit the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination — the national exam required for admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
Registration is completed online and at accredited CBT centres across Nigeria. It is not optional and it is not something that can be done at the last minute without consequences.
Who Can Register for JAMB 2027?
To be eligible to register for JAMB 2027 you must:
- Have a valid National Identification Number (NIN)
- Possess or be awaiting O'Level results (WAEC, NECO, or GCE) — you do not need to have received your results before registering, but you must have sat the exams
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Have a functional email address that you have access to
Step-by-Step JAMB 2027 Registration Guide
Step 1 — Get Your NIN
The National Identification Number is now mandatory for JAMB registration. Without it, you cannot complete the process.
If you do not have a NIN yet, visit the nearest NIMC (National Identity Management Commission) office with your birth certificate or any valid ID. NIN registration is free.
Do this early. NIMC offices get extremely busy during JAMB registration season and processing can take time.
Step 2 — Create a JAMB Profile
Before paying for JAMB or visiting any CBT centre, you must first create a JAMB profile on the official JAMB portal at jamb.gov.ng.
To create your profile:
- Visit jamb.gov.ng and click on "Create Profile"
- Enter your NIN and personal details
- Set up your profile with an email address and phone number you have consistent access to
- A profile code will be generated — save this code carefully, you will need it throughout the registration process
Step 3 — Purchase the JAMB ePIN
The JAMB registration PIN is purchased at any accredited bank or through authorised JAMB sales points. The current registration fee is set by JAMB annually — confirm the official amount on jamb.gov.ng before purchasing.
Do not buy your PIN from any individual, agent, or unofficial source. Fake PINs are common and the consequences fall entirely on the candidate.
Step 4 — Complete Registration at an Accredited CBT Centre
Take the following to your nearest accredited JAMB CBT centre:
- Your JAMB profile code
- Your ePIN
- Your NIN
- A passport photograph (white background, taken recently)
- Your O'Level results or exam registration number if results are pending
At the centre, you will:
- Complete your biodata and personal information
- Choose your subject combination (4 subjects including Use of English which is compulsory)
- Choose your first choice institution and course
- Choose your second choice institution
- Select your preferred exam state and town
- Have your photograph, fingerprints, and signature captured biometrically
After this is completed, your registration slip will be printed. Keep it safely — you will need it on exam day.
Step 5 — Mock Examination (Optional but Recommended)
JAMB typically conducts a mock UTME exercise before the main exam for candidates who opt in during registration. This is not compulsory but it is strongly recommended.
The mock exam gives you:
- Experience with the exact CBT interface you will use on exam day
- A preview of the exam format and timing
- A realistic sense of your current level of preparation
Candidates who sit the mock exam are significantly better prepared for the format of the main exam than those who don't.
Choosing Your Subject Combination
This is one of the most important decisions you make during registration — and one of the most commonly mishandled.
Your four subjects must include:
- Use of English — compulsory for all candidates
- Three other subjects relevant to your intended course of study
Different courses require specific subject combinations. Choosing the wrong combination means you cannot be considered for your chosen course regardless of your score.
Some common examples:
- Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing: English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
- Engineering: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
- Law: English, Literature, Government, any Social Science
- Accounting/Economics: English, Mathematics, Economics, any relevant subject
- Computer Science: English, Mathematics, Physics, any relevant subject
- Mass Communication: English, Literature or Government, any two relevant subjects
Always confirm the specific subject combination required by your chosen institution for your chosen course — requirements vary slightly between universities.
Choosing Your Institution and Course
During registration you choose:
- A first choice institution and course
- A second choice institution and course
Choose strategically. Your first choice should be an institution where your expected score is genuinely competitive for your course. Do not waste your first choice on an institution whose cut off mark significantly exceeds what you are likely to score.
Your choices can be changed after registration through JAMB's Change of Course or Change of Institution service — but this comes with an additional fee and has a deadline.
Common Registration Mistakes to Avoid
Spelling your name differently from your O'Level certificate Your JAMB name must match your O'Level name exactly. A discrepancy — even a middle name missing or a different spelling — can cause serious problems during the admission process and clearance.
Using someone else's email address or phone number All JAMB communications, including your result and admission status, go to the contact details on your profile. Use details you have direct access to.
Buying your PIN from unofficial sources Only purchase from banks and official JAMB-accredited sales points. Never from individuals, no matter how trusted they seem.
Choosing a subject combination that does not match your course Confirm your required subjects before arriving at the CBT centre. Changes after registration are possible but cost time and money.
Not saving your profile code and registration slip These documents are needed repeatedly throughout the JAMB and admission process. Print and store them safely from the day of registration.
Registering without your NIN You cannot complete biometric capture without a valid NIN. Do not go to the CBT centre without it.
When Does JAMB 2027 Registration Open?
JAMB typically opens registration between November and January for exams conducted between March and April. Exact dates for 2027 will be announced on jamb.gov.ng.
Register as early as possible when registration opens. Popular CBT centres fill up quickly and last-minute registration often means longer queues, rushed processes, and higher risk of errors.

Once registration is complete, your focus shifts entirely to preparation. You have your subjects. You have your institution and course. Now the work begins.
The candidates who perform best in JAMB are not the ones who registered earliest or latest — they are the ones who used every day between registration and the exam date deliberately.
